Luke Thorburn is a final year PhD student in computer science at King’s College London. His research focuses on understanding and mitigating societal impacts of recommender systems, particularly with respect to risks of conflict escalation. He has consulted on regulation of recommender systems for Ofcom; advised Meta on collective alignment of AI systems; and co-authors the Understanding Recommenders blog at the Center for Human-Compatible AI (CHAI), University of California, Berkeley, which has been cited in three US Supreme Court cases involving NetChoice and Google.
