CEO, AI & Democracy Foundation

Aviv Ovadya is the founder and CEO of the AI & Democracy Foundation (AIDF), focused on innovative approaches for AI governance and alignment, building on insights from both offline deliberative democracy and AI-augmented deliberation technology, and is also affiliated with Harvard’s Berkman Klein Center, the Centre for Governance or AI, and the newDemocracy Foundation. Aviv’s prior work explored how we can make our information ecosystem and decision-making systems robust in the face of new technologies. This has involved measurement, mapping harm dynamics, identifying potential levers, navigating limitations (e.g. of generative AI detection), and ensuring that social media ranking systems can bridge divides instead of fomenting division. His recent work has included supporting Meta and OpenAI in piloting the approaches championed by AIDF. Aviv’s work has been covered by publications including the New York Times and BBC and his writing is published by WIRED, Bloomberg, HBR, the Washington Post, and his newsletter.
