Shashank Mohan

Shashank Mohan is a Student Research Assistant with the Knight-Georgetown Institute (KGI) at Georgetown University working with the team to explore emerging mechanisms to enhance online child safety. He is currently a Master’s candidate at Georgetown University pursuing an LL.M. in Technology Law & Policy at the Georgetown University Law Centre.

Shashank is a lawyer and brings over a decade of experience in technology law, policy and regulation, with a focus on global trends and the governance needs of the Global South. Prior to joining KGI, Shashank worked for over six years at the Centre for Communication Governance at National Law University, New Delhi, leaving as Associate Director. His earlier experience includes working with the Software Freedom Law Centre in New Delhi and, in a previous avatar, advising international firms on international taxation in India. More recently, Shashank was a technology policy fellow with the Tech Global Institute where he wrote about different norm externalization effects in technology policy around the world.

Through his career in technology policy, Shashank has written extensively on subjects of data protection, group privacy, platform regulation, intermediary liability, online harms, online consent, and global AI governance, while working to build global communities focused on digital rights. Shashank is particularly interested in how power, democracy, and the law will shape our technological future. His first degree in law was completed in India.
