Vaishnavi J is the founder and principal of Vys, a product advisory firm working with gaming, social, edtech, and AI companies on age-aware design for safety and wellbeing. At Vys, she and her team of consultants red-team work on generative AI systems. Vys open-sourced the first teen self-injury content policies enforceable directly by LLMs. She was previously Head of Safety and Wellbeing at Instagram and Global Head of Youth Policy at Meta, where her team set the policy standards for teen wellbeing and time management. She supported the launch of Nudges, Take a Break, hiding Likes, and Hidden Words in DMs on Instagram. She convened Meta’s first standing expert group on eating disorders, translating clinical guidance into content policy and in-app support resources.  Earlier she led video content policies at Twitter and was its first Head of Safety for Asia-Pacific, and prior to that was Google’s child safety policy lead for the region. Her work on platform governance has appeared in The ANNALS of the American Academy of Political and Social Science. She co-chairs the board of the Integrity Institute, and is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley.
