Job Overview

The Knight-Georgetown Institute (KGI) is seeking a student pursuing a master’s degree to assist in compiling, summarizing, and synthesizing research and policy materials in support of the institute’s work. KGI was recently established to translate research about technology and the online information environment for policy and industry audiences, and to connect and convene academics with policy stakeholders. This student position will include identifying, reading, summarizing, curating, and writing overviews of research and policy documents related to online information and technology topics. This role provides the opportunity to develop and contribute to KGI’s internal communications and external publications. This is an exciting opportunity to join a brand new organization and engage with some of today’s most pressing tech policy issues, including online safety, platform regulation, competition, and AI-related issues.

The successful candidate will have excellent research and writing skills, the ability to work independently, attention to detail, and the ability to work on and appropriately prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously. Experience with translating research for a policy audience is preferred. 

The research assistance may cross disciplines, including social science, political science, communication, computer science, data science, law, economics, journalism, and other related fields.

The successful candidate should be available for some in-person engagements on the Capitol Campus and the main campus, though much of the work can be completed remotely. 

The candidate will work 15 hours a week, depending on the needs of the team and the schedule of the candidate.

This position will work with the full 6-person KGI team and will report directly to the KGI Associate Director. 

Requirements and Qualifications

Pay Range:

The pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:$19.50 – $23.00

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
