Alondra Nelson

Dr. Alondra Nelson, is an acclaimed scholar, writer, and the Harold F. Linder Professor at the Institute for Advanced Study, where she leads the Science, Technology, and Social Values Lab. Dr. Nelson served as deputy assistant to President Biden and acting director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. In this role, she was the first African American and first woman of color to lead US science and technology policy, spearheaded the development of the Blueprint for an AI Bill of Rights, issued guidance to expand access to federally-funded research, and galvanized a multisector strategy to advance equity and excellence in STEM. Including Nelson in the list of Ten People Who Shaped Science, Nature said of her OSTP tenure, “this social scientist made strides for equity, integrity and open access.” In 2023, she was included in the inaugural TIME100 list of the most influential people in artificial intelligence.
