Reed Showalter
Senior Research Fellow

Reed Showalter is a Senior Research Fellow at the Knight-Georgetown Institute. His focus is on the emergence and maintenance of corporate power in tech markets, as well as the existing and potential anti-monopoly legal tools to address abuses of that power. Reed Showalter’s fellowship is generously supported by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
Reed was formerly Senior Policy Advisor for Competition at the White House National Economic Council. He also worked in government at the Justice Department as an attorney advisor for the Antitrust Division and as the counsel for antitrust issues in the Office of Legislative Affairs. At the Federal Trade Commission, he served as an enforcement attorney in digital tech markets. Prior to that he worked for the House Antitrust Subcommittee on the Digital Markets Investigation of Google, Facebook, Apple, and Amazon. He also practiced law at the Kanter Law Group where he worked on tech litigation and legislation.
His work has appeared in scholarly journals and popular press and has been covered by media outlets like Politico, Bloomberg, and on CNBC. He holds a J.D. from Columbia University and a B.A. from New York University.
