Job Overview
The Knight-Georgetown Institute (KGI) is seeking a master’s student to provide communications support for the institute. The Knight-Georgetown Institute (KGI) is dedicated to connecting independent research with technology policy and design. KGI serves as a central hub for the growing network of scholarship that seeks to shape how technology is used to produce, disseminate, and access information. KGI is designed to provide practical resources that policymakers, journalists, and private and public sector leaders can use to tackle information and technology issues in real time. Georgetown University and the Knight Foundation launched the institute in 2024.
This communication assistant position includes: crafting content for our website and social media platforms; supporting with updates and maintenance for our website; assisting with event promotion and coordination; monitoring website traffic and social media performance; and supporting both internal and external communications efforts. This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on communications experience with a growing organization that works on some of the most pressing tech policy issues of our time, including online safety, platform regulation, and technology competition policy.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Communications support
- Administrative support
- Event coordination
- Desk research
This position will work with the KGI team and will report directly to the KGI Communications Director.
Requirements
The successful candidate should be available for some in-person engagements on the Capitol Campus and the main campus, though much of the work can be completed remotely.
The candidate will work up to 20 hours a week, depending on the needs of the team and the schedule of the candidate. This position is for the full academic school year, with the possibility of continuing into the summer by mutual agreement.
